Checkmate A Game No Man Wins

Jun 7, 2026    Bishop Keith A. Kershaw

Chess is a discipline game. It is not based on chance. Conflict psychology suggests that a person can be at war without being in a state of war. We are in a wrestling match all of our lives. There are three wills always present, which are God’s will, your will, and satan’s will. Some of us have our war in our past. In our mind, there is a visible war. Some are at war with their future. There is war within ourselves. We do not like ourselves and the life we are living.

You cannot be at odds with the Believers. We cannot say we love God and we are at war with the Believers of God. We are going to focus on God’s will and your will. You cannot win God’s will. The creation will never be over the Creator. You ought to give in to God’s will. Time has multiple wills, and eternity has only one will, which is God’s will. We must submit our will unto God. There must be a continual bow unto the will of God.

Chess is a contest where nothing is left to the dice. Chance is not a part of the game. Cards and board games limit what you can hold in your hand. In chess, the board sits wide open. You do not want to hear your opponent say checkmate. Individuals who play the game of chess need to see moves played ahead.

God always has the first move in our lives. God moves first and last because He is Alpha and Omega. When He sits at the table, He can say He has never lost a match. Every move that Jonah made, God had already covered it. Never think that the absence of trouble is an indication that you are in God’s will. Some of God’s people believe became things are going well, they are in the will of God. Why don’t you lay down your king and let God’s will reign?

Jonah did not run because of the fear of failure. He ran because he did not want God to be successful. You know you have grown when you have your enemies on your prayer list. The pagan people on the ship were more in tune with God than the man of God. Jonah took the energy to move to a place of descent. It is not people of God are lazy, they are not focused on the things of God. Jonah was not running from God’s existence; he was running from God’s face. Jonah was fleeing from the assignment that God had given him. Some people look you in your face, but when they are guilty, they will not look you in your face.

Be careful that your will is being exalted, and God sends you a storm, and you are still sleeping. Saints complain about the sinners, but the word of God speaks about how the enemy crept while the people of God were unaware.

There is God’s assignment that we cannot cancel. You cannot decide which assignment you can talk about and which one you cannot take. God is already six plays ahead of you.
