The Danger of Deferred Decisions

Mar 1, 2026    Bishop Keith A. Kershaw

Every life is a series of decisions. Here is King Herod with all of his apparel, and beside him is his sister. Fetus was more concerned about his political position, and the room was filled with military people. Paul was one of the most powerful men in the room. Paul made a most powerful decision. You cannot live without making a decision. From the time you get out of bed, you are making decisions. Research says we make over 30, 000 decisions. Some decisions are on autopilot. You are not even conscious of your decisions. For instance, your eyes automatically blink after certain movements. You cannot opt out of making a decision when you do not do anything; that is a decision. Even almost deciding to do something is a decision.

You need courage to make decisions. It is easy to be bold when it carries no consequences. If this been in our time, Paul would have been encouraged to take a more political decision. But Paul made his decision after his Damascus experience. Paul had a decisive decision when he was in front of Jesus in Damascus. Paul was willing to live and die by the decision he made. This is what made Paul more dangerous before powerful man. You could not threaten a man who already made a decision. When you make a decision, you become liberated to do what you have been called to do.

In verse Acts 26:21, Paul is telling Agrippa that he wished Agrippa had what Paul had. Stop apologizing for what God has done in your life. Give God the glory. The question we need to ask is, will you be almost or altogether? Great decisions require great courage.

How do we get from almost to making a decision? Paul made a decision, and decisions have consequences.

Who is Paul? He was Saul, educated and a born Roman. This is equivalent to him graduating from Yale. He is brilliant, zealous, a persecutor, and a prosecutor. He watched people who died making their decisions. Before his Damascus experiences, Paul decided to do something. It was he who did not decide to do the right thing. God has a purpose in your life. Will you be obedient to the heavenly direction God has for your life? The decision to obey did not make it easy. Paul wrote 14 epistles for the Bible. The Apostle Paul preached life. Paul made a decision so deep that the threat of death changed. A man who made a decision does not run from it. Sowing almost will be equal to sowing too late. You have to make up your mind.
