Genesis Church of God in Christ

Its Time to Call It By Its Name

Feb 22, 2026    Bishop Keith A. Kershaw

There are certain sins that the church will scream from the rooftops, such as drugs, homosexuality, and premarital sex. But today, we will discuss a disguised sin: jealousy. We are talking about racism. You cannot comprehend the depth of Mariam's fall until you understand her level in Exodus.

Mariam was instrumental to Moses when he was in the basket. She was a worshipper among the Israelites. She was an influencer among people. Moses speaks what God says. Moses overseer over 2 million people. Mariam and Aaron spoke against Moses for marrying an Ethiopian woman. But their real problem was that they were no longer in their position. When someone loses their position, they look for people who cannot defend themselves.

Mariam had been the leading woman in Moses' life. She was his oldest sister. Now there is a wife. Now, Divine order comes into place. There is one thing that lasts until death, which is marriage. By Divine order, Mariam had difficulties handling the change. If people cannot accept the change in their position, they will find someone to blame.

“The Lord heard it”. You do not have to track anyone. Allow God to do the tracking. In Numbers 12: 5 God suddenly spoke because Mariam attacked the anointed man of God. They were not afraid to speak against the man of God. Leprosy was not just a medical condition. Leprosy is a sign of sin. It required the person to be placed in isolation. It is difficult to find someone white in the Bible. You can hold someone accountable, but you do not have the right to choose who God selected to be used. Be careful that you do not wait until God disciplinesyo before you recognize you have done something wrong. Let’s start calling it out by name.
