What Does It Mean To Remember Bishop Keith A Kershaw
My approach to remembering brought more questions than answers. God, why do you continue to tell us to remember when we forget? Many of us were raised in the home with certain things to remember. For instance, “Don’t you ever forget where you came from”. How do I forget when there is something good or bad that traumatically impacts my life? Another phrase is “What goes around comes around”. We are reminded, “Don’t forget the struggles of your ancestors”.
Forgiveness requires you to see something as if it never happened. Forgiveness requires you to go to the other side of the fence. It is called perfected forgiveness. How is it that an all-knowing God can forget? How can a God who is known to be perfect, and our illustration to follow, how does he do it? If God remembers, He has already forgotten. How can God remember something He already knows about it?
When you ignore God, that is an act of idolatry. The steps of a good man are ordered by God. God remembered Noah. God remembered Abraham. God remembered the covenant of the Israelites. The man on the right side of the cross asked Jesus to remember him. When I ask God to remember me, it is the act of Divine mercy. When God sees the rainbow, He remembers His promise. God is a covenant keeper. Every time you remember, it should revoke an action. When you remember something God did for you, your hands should go up. We must remember what God has done in our lives.
