Genesis Church of God in Christ

Beautifully Broken

Feb 8, 2026    Bishop Keith A. Kershaw

A potter became more valuable when it is broken. Today, we live in a time filled with bad news. We are living in a throwaway world. We replace it, discard it, and move on. This is the practice we see in the church culture. If you were honest with yourself, you would say that you felt the Lord had thrown you away. The enemy has reminded you that you are disposable. No one is addressing their psychological needs. Interruptions are an illustration of God’s sovereignty.

God has the right to interrupt your life when it is spending in the wrong direction. When we are without chastisement, we are considered illegitimate. Your life is out of control because you have been resistant. You are too valuable a clay for God to throw you away. A master potter will not throw away clay that is not working. A master potter knows how to transform the clay. God’s interruption is not failure but a redirection. God interrupts our plan because He sees more than we see. God does not want you to settle for less. God does not want you to be settled; He wants you to be great. The problem comes when we jump off before He can finish working on the wheel. We must learn how to submit to the wheel of God. God’s ways and thoughts are not our ways or thoughts.

God does not recycle you. He re-constructs you. There are different types of clay. If you do not have a know word in you and you wonder why you are dry. Some have been brought into the potter’s wheel, and they have no word inside of them. The text talks about the clay being marred. The marriage does not change the fact that God is sovereign. We are His workmanship. You are God’s creative workmanship before you were born. God had a plan for you before you knew He had a plan. The word marred speaks of our spiritual state before God worked on us. God does a new thing. He begins to squeeze you when the potter has you on the wheel. God is getting His hands dirty. God is forming you like He formed Adam. God is trying to form a new you in His life. You are not an accident. You are the artwork of God.
