Moses is a famous and familiar name. Everyone knows him, but many do not know his mother’s name. Moses’ mother’s name is Jochebed. In comparison to women, men are mentioned 12 to 1 in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, men are mentioned 17 to 1 compared to women.

When Pharaoh realized the danger of the Israelites, he commanded the people to destroy the male babies. It was as if Pharaoh did not see women as a danger to him. It was Jochebed, the daughter of a Levi, who was responsible for keeping Moses hidden. In Exodus 6 is the only time that Moses’ mother's name was mentioned. The parents of Moses gave birth to three leaders: Miriam, Aaron, and Moses. Jochebed name means YHWH is glory. She was not just a birthing female. She was called to be a mother with purpose. Jochebed may have been insignificant to man, but she was significant to God. God gave her favor.

There was a nation in the womb of Jochebed. You are not just a stay-at-home mother. You are more than what people say you are to them. Moses was his Egyptian name. Moses went from hiding in his mother’s womb, hidden in the basket, hidden by her parents, to being hidden in Pharaoh’s house. When the child is grown, you have to give the gift back to God. God wants His gift back. We must let the wheat and tar grow together. Moses’ mother reminded him that the Egyptians are not like us. Moses, you are a chosen generation. You are more than your experience. There is a Divine call on your life.
